Learn chess and have fun playing with other students at the beginning and early intermediate level. An experienced and enthusiastic chess instructor leads lessons in the popular strategy game for children and young people ages 5-12 in small groups.

Chess is an exercise of infinite possibilities for the mind, one that helps develop mental abilities to be used throughout life. Playing chess improves concentration, critical thinking, abstract reasoning, problem solving, pattern recognition, strategic planning, creativity, synthesis, and evaluation.

Chess instructor Michah Saperstein has been teaching chess to children for 5 years, and has developed a program which emphasizes creativity and imagination in children. His first experience teaching was 13 years ago while traveling in Asia, instructing English as a second language.

Meets 13 Tuesdays: September 16 through December 16, 2014 (excluding November 11th).   PLEASE NOTE: There is still room in this series.  You may join the class and pay on a pro-rated basis.  If interested, please call 212-267-9700, ext. 363 or email: 6riverterrace@bpcparks.org to register today!
