Event Details

Learn chess and have fun playing with other students at the beginning level. An experienced and enthusiastic chess instructor leads lessons in the popular strategy game for children in small, focused groups suited to your child’s level.

Chess is an exercise of infinite possibilities for the mind, one that helps develop mental abilities to be used throughout life. Playing chess improves concentration, critical thinking, abstract reasoning, problem solving, pattern recognition, strategic planning, creativity, synthesis, and evaluation.

Chess instructor Michah Saperstein has been teaching chess to children for 5 years, and has developed a program which emphasizes creativity and imagination in children. His first experience teaching was 13 years ago while traveling in Asia, instructing English as a second language.

Meets Tuesdays, September 8th through December 15th.

This class is full.

Meets at 6 River Terrace (at the south end of River Terrace by the Irish Hunger Memorial)

There’s also a slightly more advanced class just for older kids.
